Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John George Keffas was born March 13, 1931, in Perista, Greece and passed away on September 11, 2023 at age 92.  He came to the United States in 1947 at age 16 and worked in a flower shop with his father and uncle. He was proud to be an American, getting his citizenship and serving his country in the Korean War where he was awarded a Bronze Star for heroic achievement.

He married Mary Dimitra Likos in 1958.  He became the proprietor of Keffas Bros. Florist and the Jackson Heights Florist, both in Jackson Heights, NY, until his retirement. He was the namesake of the Papou Yianni trophy in our family's La Familia Fantasy Football League. He was a diehard Yankees fan and he knew baseball statistics like no other!  In his spare time, he enjoyed growing vegetables in his garden.  He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic and how family was the most important thing to him.  He was the most generous, giving person we knew.  He was the patriarch of our family.

He is predeceased by his father, George Keffas, his mother, Polixeni (Chugranis) Keffas, his brother, Constantine Keffas and his sister, Theodora Moraitis.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Dimitra (Dee) Keffas, his sister, Betty Gerontas, his son, George Keffas (Margaret), daughter, Peggy Pietzak (Ed), daughter, Paula Cordan (Jack), his seven grandchildren, Joe (Joanna) Keffas, Eddie (Mackenzie) Pietzak, John (Mary) Keffas, Stephen Pietzak, Jackie Keffas, John Cordan, Matt Cordan and his two great granddaughters Brooke Keffas and Madeline Pietzak.

The visitation will take place at Thomas A. Glynn Funeral Home, 20 Lincoln Avenue, Rockville Center, NY 11570 on Sunday, September 17 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.  The funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am at The Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, 100 Fairway Drive, Port Washington, NY 11050.
