Long time Point Lookout resident Irene M. Hanratty, 92, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026.

Irene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.  She touched numerous lives with her gentle spirit. She will be remembered for her kindness, warm heart and

devotion to her family and Catholic faith.

Her husband Raymond pre-deceased her in 2022.  Irene is survived by her five children; Mary Maloney(Edward Jay), Clare Mills(Richard), William, Irene Schmidt(John) and Elizabeth Fine(her late husband Edward), as well as,

twenty-six grandchildren including their spouses and twelve great-grandchildren.

Irene was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 21, 1934  to Walter and Irene McCurdy. As the youngest of four children her three older brothers were always looking out for her.  In her early years, Irene and her family summered

in Breezy Point where she met her future husband Raymond.  They were married on January 29, 1956.

Among the early 'pioneers' they settled in Point Lookout in the late 1950's.  As snowbirds in later life they enjoyed wintering in Stuart, Florida.

In addition to being a full time wife and mother she enjoyed playing golf as a member of the Rockville Links and playing bridge as a charter member of the Point Lookout Bridge Biddies. She looked forward to marching

in the annual Fourth of July parade.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Irene and Ray's name to the scholarship fund at Long Beach Catholic Regional School
