Dear Tom, Paige, Marybeth and Tommy,
Our deepest condolences you and all of your extended family. It is an absolute tragedy losing Patti at such a young age. We can still remember Patti joining Brooklyn Union Gas as a Management Trainee back in 1987 and the fun times we had during work and at various Company functions. (Barbara was a recruitment analyst with HR Dept. then.) Oh what an infectious smile and personality she had. She just brightened up the room when she was there. Everything always seemed so positive and fun. She will be greatly missed.
Best Regards,

Dear Tom, Paige, MaryBeth & Tommy,
I've been so moved reading the tributes from my friends and colleagues at National Grid that there is little for me to add other than one memory of Pat which will remain with me.
I arrived in New York from the UK in September 2009 to begin a three-year work assignment. Filled with nerves and anxiety on my first day in the office, I reached my desk to unpack my computer and found a 'welcome to New York' bag on my desk. The bag contained everything - English tea bags, British chocolate (the good stuff!!) and an MBA Subway Ticket amongst many other things. It was a survival pack for me in the first week. It was Patti who had thought about me and prepared this bag - she'd imagined what it would be like for me to be so far away from home and feeling how I would be and she was exactly right. After opening everything she walked over to me and gave me a warm and welcoming hug and reminded me I was part of a new 'family' in New York and if I needed anything I only had to ask.
I can't tell you the impact that this had on me and I will always be grateful to Patti for this. It summed up her character - always thinking of others, always giving something of herself to make others feel included and supported.
I know you are immensely proud of her and I want to tell you that her example lives on in many of us at National Grid. We will strive every day to live by her example. Thank you for sharing her with us - we are better people for having known her and will never forget her.
Best Wishes,
Keith Hutchison

Dear Michels family -
I was extremely fortunate to have Pat sit next to me during her tenure at United Way of LI. To say she was a ray of sunshine every time we met is a vast understatement. I simply cannot find words expansive enough to express how sweet, positive, genereus, loving and caring Pat was. I was graced by her joy of her family and her stories of love for all of you were boundless. I heard her speak to the children and offer support and comfort like no other. Her dedication in helping others was endless and had no boundary. She will truly be missed by me and I consider myself blessed to have known such a regal gem of a lady who reminded me of the joys that life brings with that gorgeous smile of hers. Dear Tom, Paige, MaryBeth, and Tommy:
Pat was a wonderful mentor, coach and friend. She would see someone’s potential and point it out so they could grow - what a gift. She radiated joy, and her family was the source of her energy. She would love to talk about you - her beautiful daughters and precious baby boy. She was so kind, strong, wise and thoughtful. She would always have the right word of encouragement at the right time, plus a warm hug. She was a role model for so many.

I met Patti when we were both employees of Brooklyn Union, all those years ago. After a few years in the company she brought me into HR to work on a project and the rest is history. I've had the privilege to work with her and for her throughout my career, she was a mentor and a friend. Two things I admired most about Patti were her confidence and how she always had a plan. She lived her life on her terms, always anticipating what was next for her and her family. She will be missed. My deepest condolences to the Clark-Michels family. Tommy, Paige, MaryBeth, and Tommy:
I have had the pleasure of knowing your wife and mother for over 30 years. She was one of my closest and dearest friends. We worked in HR together earlier in our careers and maintained a close friendship ever since. Patti was all the things people are saying. She was a mentor and role model for all women. She was strong, inspirational, capable, funny, but most of all loving and caring. She talked about you, her family, all the time. Whenever I needed advice on a professional or personal issue, Patti was always there for me. Before I retired, we met and talked for hours about all of you, life in general, and her health issues and I thought how courageous and brave she was. She toasted me at my retirement party and shared one of our many stories. Her words were both funny and heartfelt. I was touched and will be forever grateful. You meet many people in your life and they play different roles. Patti has played a special role in my life and she will always have a special place in my heart. Heaven is a better place now that she is there. Take some comfort knowing that she has watched over you all of your lives and will continue to do so. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I'd only physically met Pat once, through work. We shared a Jeff's cab from Res Woods to Logan airport and right away, I remember thinking "Wow, how nice is this woman!?" Talking in the cab turned into walking and talking in the airport, which turned into talking while we waited for our flight (since the walking and talking revealed we were on the same flight home.) We talked about school, about Grid and about family- a family she loved so much and was so very proud of. She showed me pictures of her beautiful kids, told me about a trip they had just come back from and how much everyone she told me to come follow enjoyed it. When the attendants started their usual boarding call, she told me to follow her. "I'm a Mosaic member," she said with a smile, "I'll get you boarded early, just tell them you're my niece!" I did just that, thinking I've just encountered one of the nicest people I've ever met in my whole life. We weren't seated next to each other and parted ways after the flight landed, but we would touch base through Lync and catch up from time to time afterward.
It's a silly little anecdote, but I will never forget that afternoon, how bright and happy she was, or that little act of kindness. If just one afternoon could leave such a positive mark and impression, I could only imagine the beautiful memories she's left her family with to carry on her legacy.
To the Michels family- My heart is with you, my thoughts are with you and I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. The world is a little dimmer without her.

I first met Patti following the LILCO/BUG merger when she was assigned as my HR Partner. It didn't take long to identify Patti as a very special person. It is rare to encounter someone so kind, caring, talented and professional. Patti never failed to go above and beyond to solve any problem or provide support.
When I mentioned to Patti that my daughter, Jackie, was interested in an HR summer internship at KeySpan, Patti immediately arranged to go meet Jackie on the Boston College campus. Who does that? Jackie later reported that poor Patti struggled to traverse the hilly campus in her "heels."
Ever since the interview, Patti has been a wonderful mentor and friend to Jackie through the beginning of her professional life at National Grid.
Patti has been a wonderful colleague, professional and friend. She will be dearly missed by all that have had the pleasure to know her. My life has been enriched by our friendship. I can only imagine your heartbreak.

I was so heartbroken to hear that Patti passed away; I still cannot believe it! I met with her only several months ago; just to catch up and get her advice on things. She always knew the right things to say to make you feel better. She was one of the very few women at work that I considered a mentor. I knew she had been ill, but I guess I didn't realize how serious it was - and especially because she never complained, you would never know it. She still had that beautiful smile, twinkle in her eyes, and that huge bubbly personality. She loved my wacky sense of humor; I could make her laugh until she almost cried - and now, well....we are left here crying.
May she rest in eternal peace and may the memories she left behind give her family the strength to carry on. My sincerest condolences to her husband, children, family and all those whose life she touched. Heaven just gained one of a kind. <3 <3

To the Michels family,
I am so sad and heartbroken to hear about Pat's passing. I was one of the lucky ones at National Grid to have had the chance to know Pat and work closely with her. We worked together when she was Tom King's executive advisor and I was his admin. Pat made it fun to come to work, god, we had so many laughs together. She talked about her family endlessly and the many school and homework projects that she helped you with, the trips to Florida and the beach, and the mess that Superstorm Sandy made of her parents home. I remember the Taylor Swift concert when the girls came to Gillette Stadium and the pictures she sent of all of you having fun singing along. Her smiling face and how she was always dressed so beautifully will forever be etched in my mind.
My deepest sympathies to all of you. May she rest in peace in God's love.

I am so sorry for your loss. Words seem inadequate right now. Tom, I knew you first on the 401k project and then was delighted to meet Pat and find out that you two were married. Pat was pregnant at the time and was so thrilled. Paige, Marybeth and Tommy were the lights of her life. The last time I worked closely with Pat was on the National Grid re-organization in 2011. She was grace under pressure and always knew how to address an issue or a problem. I learned a lot from her during that time period.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you now and in the weeks to come.

I can hardly access the words to describe what Pat meant to me when I joined this industry as a new employee less than five years ago. Generous... beyond measure. Curious... with genuine interest. Caring... as if we were all her family. Pat became a role model for me as a woman at our company, and I will be forever grateful for her guidance, encouragement and friendship. She will be missed here on earth but forever present in our hearts.
There is a new angel in heaven, guiding us all.
My sincerest condolences to her family,
Heather Romero

Tom, Paige, Marybeth and Tommy -
Your wife/mom is someone I will always remember and hold dear to my heart for her warmth, generosity and the love she extended to all that she encountered. I will remember fondly her big, beautiful, and warm smile. She had a way of lighting up a room when she came in and I will miss the moments we shared as "one big RVC family" whether watching the Super Bowl together or the simple BBQ's at Malibu. God is lucky to have her and I know she will be keeping watch over us and continuing to help us with the tough times and celebrate with us during the good times with her memory.
God Bless the Michels' and Clark families. We love you all...
