Denis was my very first real boss when he hired me as an assistant d.a. out of law school in 1978.
For over 30 years, Denis has srved as a role model and inspiration for me. Literally a day did not go by during my own public service career when Denis did not cross my mind.
We shared a passion for an artist name Ceballo, who did a sketch of JFK that hung in Denis' office...when I admired it (only 26 years old at the time!) Denis wrote down his name and number for me and Ceballo drew a beautiful sketch of RFK for me. It has hung in every office I've occupied since then, and every time I look at Bobby I see, remember and appreciate just how fortunate I was to have had Denis Dillon in my life.
In 2004, when I worked for the state comptroller our office and the NCDA worked together on the Roslyn School District scandal case. When I had at a pre-briefing press conference the "wierd" privilege of introducing Denis, my first boss to the state comptroller (my last boss!)Denis said to him "...you know, Bobby - that's what he called me and I loved it - was a pretty good Assistant..." Whatever I've achieved , accomplished or received acknowlegement for from the time I left the NCDA to this moment, for DD to say "...he was a pretty good Assistant..." was and will always remain the highest accolade I will ever recieve.
Thank you DD for affecting both my personal and professional life in so many ways you never would have known.
You were one of the few good and decent men in this business, and I will miss you.
