Dear Mrs Hammill ,
I am Luke and Ginny Burke’s daughter and learned of Greg’s passing. I wanted to share my good memory of you both coming to our house for parties and all the shared laughs through the years in Douglaston.
When I had my accident, you both sent presents to me.
Lots of prayers and hug to you.
Sincerely,
Rita Healy

Dear Cathy and girls. Hard to believe, but John and I just learned of Greg's passing last night - at the HC cocktail reception. Greg was a gem of a man. Christian, kind, gentle, considerate - oh, I could go on and on. Seeing Greg, always brought a smile. I feel for your loss - but you were so lucky to have him for so long. God bless your memories of having such a special man in your lives. Love, Connie

One of my dad's favorite was Greg Hammill both as a lawyer and as a person. He was always very fair, friendly and genuine. I am a better person for having known him. Rest in peace Mr. Hammill.

Greg Hammill was a great man and a great lawyer.
As a young lawyer 40 years ago, I learned how to comport myself in court by emulating his style.
I wasn't able to copy his habit of leaving his cigar on top of the courtroom sign as he entered the courtroom, as only Greg was tall enough to accomplish that act.
He will be sorely missed.

I'm deeply saddened by this news. As an attorney for the past 45 years, I had many, many cases with Greg as an adversary and with Greg as an Arbitrator or mediator. As a young attorney assigned to Nassau Supreme Court in the 1980s, Greg was one of the great experienced litigators who was a leader in what we felt was "The Club" and was a mentor to many of us. Despite being a terrific litigator, he always did the right thing. As an adversary, if he told you the case would settle (i.e.: don't waste money on having your doctor on call), you could always depend upon his word - always. He was a "man's man" - an honest gentleman, a fine role model as an attorney, completely dependable and would never engage in a cheap trick or give a misguiding suggestion. As an arbitrator or mediator, he always sought to do the right thing and dispense justice.
He was a giant in Nassau Supreme. The courthouse will not be the same without him and the attorneys of his time who practiced law the way it should always be practiced - to seek a just outcome. RIP, Greg - you will be dearly missed.
