Obituary of Santo Farina

Please share a memory of Santo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Santo (Sam) Farina passed away on April 3, 2020 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia. He is survived by his children and their spouses; Lynne and David Zimmerman, Adam and Lucy Farina, Neil and Karen Farina, and Eric and Freda Farina, his grandchildren Erica, Amy, Molly, Kevin, Gavin, Jacob, Ben, Gunnar and Giorgio, his great grandson Tavi, cousin Linda Loveman, Nephew Paul Farina, niece Jeanmarie Carroll, and many close friends.

Sam was born of humble beginnings. He attended Stuyvesant High School, and New York University. He graduated from NYU Dental School and served in the army, stationed in Germany from 1955-57, where he achieved the rank of Captain. He opened a dental practice in the Flushing NY neighborhood where he grew up.

He was an unconventional dentist, often bringing his beloved golden retriever to work, and proudly covering his office walls with photos of his family. He was passionate about his many hobbies and past times, and loved golf, hockey, playing gin rummy, the Lemon Ice King of Corona, and baking sourdough bread and pizzas (in his back yard brick oven) for friends and family. He was a generous, larger than life man, and brought joy to many people. He adored his children and his wife of 55 years, Jinny, and looked forward to the time he would see her again.

A celebration of life will be held at a date in the future, when gatherings are possible again.
