Maria was my cousin, my colleague and my friend. She had a generous spirit, one which you could not help but be drawn toward.
Maria was always in conversation with the Lord with whom she had an intimate relationship throughout her life. As a teacher, she was always looking to improve her skills, learn new methodologies, and seek out ways to motivate her most reluctant students. As a hospice volunteer at Mercy Hospital she was never afraid to approach patients and their families to ease their anxiety and concerns which she did for many years while teaching full time. After retirement, she worked for several years in the Literacy Volunteer Program helping so many immigrants not only to read but to learn the culture of their new homeland. But most of all, Maria was a loving wife and mother and a dedicated grandmother who counted her six grandchildren as her treasures. Maria will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
