I met Uncle Martin when I was very young... I think 1984. He was warm, and patient and Kind. He gave me a Microscope and told me about science and math as the languages of the Universe.
He also shared imaginative creative storytelling... WHoppers. Uncle Martin (Mother's brother) and My Uncle Eddy (Father's brother) were school chums..
Uncle eddy and Mum used to tell me that I remind them of Uncle Martin, but I need to be more humble and achieve more. I'm sorry I never got to know him better.
Paul Dwyer (Calgary, Alberta)... youngest son of Jean Dwyer (Tai) - oldest sister of Uncle Martin.

I cannot fathom the masters’ plans, or why he made you such an extra special man. Your warmth and kindness so easily embraced, I always tried to copy your smile that glazed across your face. Everyone you met you saw the inner man and oh how you believed they deserved a better chance. The physical book did not materialize but honestly, what more did you want to write? Upon our hearts your words will stay, embedded in our memory a chapter a day. The extraordinary man that you were, the phenomenal father, brother, uncle and friend. Goodbye is inevitable, this I never wanted to say, but your task is complete and so I'll smile again until we meet. May your soul rest in peace.

In Loving Memory of a Brilliant Cousin: A Brother, Confidant, and Protector
As we navigate this journey called LIFE we sometimes are fortunate to come across certain people that become an indelible part of our being. My dear cousin, Martin was one of those people. Martin was more than a cousin to my sisters and me. He was a brother, a confidant, a protector, an advocate and always our cheer leader and at times a negotiator when our Dad (Uncle PO ) was being ridiculously over protective. He was a cherished soul who touched the lives of my sisters and me in profound ways.
He took on life with such enthusiasm and passion whether it be physics, soccer, cricket, fishing. I have fond memories of him helping me in college with my physics and calculus homework.
The more complex the assignment the more excited he would get! Of course, he would lose me within seconds!
His brilliance was undeniable and so was his humility. He possessed an innate ability to connect with anyone, regardless of time or place. Even in the briefest encounters. As I shared the sad news of his passing, I had friends from college and in Florida who I had even forgotten they had met him.
Martin was like the encouraging big brother. He listened with empathy, offering solace, and guidance, gently nudging us toward the best versions of ourselves.
To my sisters and me, our dear cousin was a beacon of love and inspiration. Our bond transcended bloodlines, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled. The memories we shared, the laughter, the tears, and the invaluable lessons he imparted will forever be etched in our hearts.
RIP my dear cousin we celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest, leaving an enduring legacy of love, intellect, and unwavering support. Though our hearts ache, we find solace in knowing that you will forever remain with us, guiding us from the depths of our cherished memories.

I only met Mr. Tai once. He was a close friend of my mother-in-law, Claire McKoy, who had expressed great joy through her for the birth of our first child, Nile. When we were finally able to meet Mr. Tai when visiting New York, the genuine love he showed to me, my wife and especially Nile, was unmeasurable and extraordinarily genuine. His warmth filled the home and his happiness for us and for getting to experience Nile's innocence was so apparent. It's rare you meet someone who does not know you well, but when you spend time with them it's as if they've been there all your life. When we returned home, Mr. Tai was sure to have frequent video calls with Nile and sent him gifts for Christmas and his birthday. As parents, it means the world to us to have people love our children this way. All we want is for them to have good people in their life and Mr. Tai was that and more.
Personally, I have almost no elders in our life that share such genuine love and caring for me and my family and Mr. Tai would have easily become the grandfather I never had. He will be missed.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message, remembering the remarkable person Martin was. His presence brought joy to everyone around him as he embodied kindness, generosity, and an adventurous spirit. Our friendship began at Kingston Tech H.S., bound by sibling connections and our shared love for cricket. Like a brother, his gentle wisdom and unwavering courage will always be cherished and forever missed in our hearts.
